Assault victim succumbs to injuries

A man who was attacked by a group, allegedly contracted by his mother last week, succumbed to his injuries at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital (MCH) here late Monday.

A man who was attacked by a group, allegedly contracted by his mother last week, succumbed to his injuries at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital (MCH) here late Monday.

According to the Pettah police, Sharafuddin, 50, had sustained serious internal injuries after being attacked by a gang of eight men on Thursday, one of whom has been arrested and three others who are under police surveillance.

Property dispute Sharafuddin’s son, Santosh, who was also injured along with four others in the attack, had told the police that the attackers were from their locality in Chakka and contracted, allegedly by Sharafuddin’s mother after a property dispute between the two.

The police said this claim, however, was yet to be ascertained and that arraigning the woman as an accused would depend on the outcome of ongoing investigations.

As for the attackers, one of them, Rajesh, was arrested while he was trying to flee from the MCH after getting treated for injuries sustained during the attack.

Police surveillance He was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody on Monday while three others, who were also under treatment at the hospital, were under police surveillance.

The body of Sharafuddin, who is survived by his wife Bindu and three children, was handed over to the family on Tuesday after autopsy at the MCH.
