All arrangements are in place for conducting the ‘Shobhayatra’ in the city as part of the Sree Krishna Jayanthi celebrations on Tuesday. Hundreds of children are expected to participate in the celebrations that will be held under the auspices of Balagokulam.
Small processions from various places including Museum, Mascot Hotel, LMS compound, Vanross junction, Thiruvananthapuram Press Club and General Hospital areas will converge at the Maha Ganapathy Temple at Palayam from where a grand Shobhayatra will be taken out. Noted sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman will inaugurate the procession that will culminate at the Putharikandam ground. Balagokulam State executive committee member D. Narayana Sharma will deliver the Sree Krishna Jayanthi message at the inaugural function.
The celebrations will come to an end as former head priest of Sabarimala Gosala Vishnu Vasudevan will perform the ‘abhishekam’ on the Krishna idol.
Separately, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) will organise Sree Krishna Janmashtami celebrations at the Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir in Pallichal. Cultural programmes, Maha Aarati, and bhajans will be held on the occasion.
Traffic arrangements
As part of the celebrations, the city police will impose restrictions along the route of the Shobhayatra from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Vehicular flow will not be permitted along the Palayam – Statue – Pulimoodu – Ayurveda College – Overbridge – East Fort – Vettimurichakotta stretch.
Vehicles must proceed along the Palayam – Nandavanam – Bakery junction – Panavila route.
The vehicles carrying the participants of the pageantry should drop the passengers at Palayam and park the vehicles on the side of the National Highway bypass by taking the Asan Square – General Hospital – Pettah – Chakka route. The parked vehicles must not hinder traffic flow and must also display the contact numbers of drivers or cleaners, in case they are not present.
