Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has urged the government to appoint a senior lawyer of the Suryanelli sex racket victim’s choice to argue her appeal before the Supreme Court.

Mr. Achuthanandan, who was addressing a news conference here on Friday, also asked the government to initiative stern action against the officials who tried to physically harass the girl.

The girl’s complaint was that some of superiors in the office where she worked had misbehaved with her and that she was framed in a case of misappropriation following this. She should be transferred out of the office and the case against her should be withdrawn, he said.

The Opposition Leader also flayed the failure of the government’s counsel to oppose the defence lawyers’ attempt to evade early consideration of the appeal by the apex court. This, he said, should be seen as being part of a conspiracy, he said.
