Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president Kummanam Rajasekharan has asked Congress leader A.K. Antony to desist from trying to divide Kerala society on communal lines.
Mr. Rajasekharan told reporters here on Monday that such attempts were detrimental to the interests of the State. Mr. Antony was trying to woo minority votes by spreading canards against the BJP and the NDA.
Mr. Antony should clarify whether he still subscribed to his earlier statement that minority communities were pocketing undue benefits. The State had witnessed a number of communal clashes under his regime. The commissions which probed the clashes had not named either the BJP or any Sangh Parivar organisations, but had named the allies of the UDF. This went against his statement that communal clashes would erupt if the BJP was voted to power, Mr. Rajaskharan said.
Chopper scam
Mr. Antony feared that he would figure as accused in the AgustaWestland chopper scam. The probe was gradually extending to the Defence Ministry and he was badly upset. Mr. Antony was trying to create a communal divide to avert a discussion on the scam during the election, he said.
He asked Mr. Antony to stop ridiculing the people of Gujarat and wanted him to clarify why he was silent on the Congress-LDF alliance in West Bengal.
