The Anchuthengu police have arrested a habitual offender for allegedly raping a 68-year-old woman a few days ago.
Anas, 29, son of Sainulabdeen, Kochuthekkazhikam house, Onnam Palam, Nedunganda, was arrested by a team that was supervised by Superintendent of Police (Thiruvananthapuram Rural) K. Shefeen Ahamed and led by Attingal Deputy Superintendent of Police R. Chandrasekharan Pillai.
According to Mr. Ahamed, the accused broke into the victim’s house on April 2 in the midnight after disconnecting the electricity supply to the building. “As the victim resisted the rape attempt, she was assaulted and overpowered by the accused after being gagged. After committing the crime, the accused threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it,” he said.
The accused was identified on the basis of the victim’s statement and information obtained by questioning nearly 20 people. He was arrested from Onnam Palam on Wednesday, and subsequently identified by the victim. The accused has been involved in several crimes in the past. These included nine cases relating to theft, sexual abuse, ganja trade and assault that have been registered in the Kadakkavoor, Anchuthengu and Kasaragod police stations.
