Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the Anayara rail overbridge is a testament to how political affiliations can be set aside for joint coordination to complete development projects in the State.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Anayara rail overbridge here on Friday. Minister for Public Works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju presided over the function.
Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar said administrative sanction had been granted for the Melaranoor overbridge, and steps for land acquisition for the Pettah rail overbridge had begun.
He said a 110-kV substation would be built at Muttathara. The State government had granted Rs.308 crore for the development of the four-lane Karamana-Kaliyikkavila road.
Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan said that traffic snarls in the Anayara area would come down, now that the long-standing demand of the people for the rail overbridge had been fulfilled.
Power Minister Aryadan Mohammed said Rs.300 crore had been earmarked for a project to improve supply of electricity in the city.
The Anayara rail overbridge was built at a cost of Rs.16 crore, borne jointly by Railways and Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd. Construction began in the 2011-12 financial year. The bridge is 407 m long and 7.5 m wide.
