All-party meet on dam sought

June 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:51 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The United Democratic Front leadership meeting on Wednesday asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to convene an all-party meeting to clear the misunderstanding caused by his recent statement on the Mullaperiyar dam.

At a press meet after the meeting, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said the Chief Minister had not yet corrected his contention that the dam was safe. Coming as it did at a time when Tamil Nadu had moved a petition at the Supreme Court seeking permission to raise the storage level to 152 feet, the Chief Minister’s statement had worried the people living in high ranges.

“The UDF stands by the well-accepted principle that Tamil Nadu should be given water for its needs,” Mr. Chennithala said.
