AIR’s screening for music fete in August

The preliminary rounds of the annual national-level music competition organised by the All India Radio (AIR) will be held in August.

The event comprises contests in vocal recitals of Hindustani and Carnatic music, vocal, light music, and folk songs (seperate categories for male and female), and instrumental recitals of violin, veena, mridangam, thavil, khadam, ganjira, mukhar sangh, thabla, flute, nagaswaram, clarinet, saxophone and harmonium.

Those who have completed 16 years of age as on June 30, 2017, and have not exceeded 24 years could participate. Members of the AIR singers’ group and participants of musical events in Yuvavani or local radio stations may participate if they satisfy the age criteria. Those who have won or were graded in auditions at any AIR station are not eligible to participate.

Application forms are available from AIR stations, and should be submitted along with proof of age, certified by the head of any recognised educational institution or by a magistrate. Submissions are to be accompanied by a Demand Draft of ₹500, addressed to the Station Director, AIR, Thiruvananthapuram-14.

Candidates based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Idukki may apply to the Thiruvananthapuram station. The last date for receipt of application is June 9.
