Air Marshal A.P. Garud takes over as SAC chief

Air Marshal Arun Purushottam Garud VM on Wednesday took over as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Air Command (SAC). The traditional guard of honour was presented by air warriors to him at the SAC headquarters here.

Before taking over as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the SAC, Air Marshal A.P. Garud was the Senior Air Staff Officer at the Training Command Headquarters.

He took over as the 23rd Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief as the Southern Air Command is poised for major operational inductions and associated infrastructure developments.

Air Marshal A.P. Garud was commissioned in the helicopter stream of the IAF on December 29, 1976. The Air Marshal has over 6,100 hours of flying experience in various helicopters and training aircraft in his career spanning 37 years.

He has a rich experience of operational flying, training, and staff assignments. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Air Marshal A.P. Garud is a Qualified Flying Instructor with a meritorious Category-A2.

He has served on deputation to Namibia. The Air Marshal is married to Sulochana Garud, a teacher.
