An old woman struggling for food and medicine, abandoned by her daughter, was one among the 300 complainants who came to the District Collector’s complaint-redressal adalat held at Kattakada Christian College on Saturday.

After hearing the complaints, District Collector K. Vasuki sought explanation from the officers concerned and gave directions for immediate action.

A majority of the complaints were of such nature that they could not be solved at once.

Sahayavasantha, who was abandoned by her daughter, was informed that her complaint would be considered as per the Maintenance Tribunal Act and set right immediately.

With such actions of respite and hope for the complainants, the adalat stood out.

31 counters

The officers should remember the Chief Minister’s words that each file was a life and their actions should be according to that, A. Sampath, MP, said while inaugurating the adalat. The adalat received 300 applications through 31 counters set up for various departments. Of these, 100 complaints were resolved at the adalat.

There will be timely action on the remaining complaints, the Collector said. In the complaints that were received online, the officers concerned should specify the time for redressal on the application and take steps accordingly. All District Development Committees (DDC) would evaluate the progress of these applications and the district-level officer should submit action-taken report in the DDCs, the Collector directed. Action would be taken against erring officers, Dr. Vasuki added.

This was the second complaint-redressal adalat in the district after integration of complaint-redressal adalats under the leadership of the Collector, as per the Chief Minister’s direction. The adalat considered complaints related to various departments in the 13 villages in the Kattakada taluk.

The inauguration meeting was presided over by K.S. Sabarinathan, MLA.
