Actors invited for Indo-Polish play

December 29, 2013 12:32 pm | Updated 12:32 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Aspiring actors, particularly those with a taste for the immense possibilities of the theatre, have an Indo-Polish collaborative effort waiting for them.

The effort, the result of a joint venture between the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, the Polish Institute, New Delhi, and Adam Mickiewicz – Institute Poznan, Poland, is to create a theatre piece inspired by the theme of gender: ‘Burning Flowers — 7 Dreams of a Woman.’

Gender issue

This Indo-Polish collaborative theatre project, according to a press release from the Akademi, will explore the issue of gender, focussing on the problem of violence against women in India and elsewhere.

The cast of Teatr Biuro Podró¿y (Travel Agency Theatre), the award-winning alternative theatre company from Poland, will be coordinating and directing, in association with International Theatre Festival of Kerala organised by the Akademi.

Indian researchers, playwrights and performers will all be part of this project. The approach is to start with the documentary survey and convert the collected material into a powerful, expressive and evocative outdoor theatre performance with the Indian cast, the press release said.

“The idea behind the process is to take theatre to people in every walk of life, non-theatre goers, and ordinary passers-by, to strike with the art in the street,” the release said, adding that Teatr Biuro Podrozy has previously performed twice at ITFOK, and this time they are here for a collaborative theatre production roping in Indian theatre artistes.

In Thrissur

“Around 12 to 15 actors are needed. As of now, there is a need for more female Indian actors. The project will be developed in Thrissur/Kerala between January 4 and 26. The performances will be presented at ITFOK in Thrissur between January 27 and February 3,” the Akademi release said.

Those interested may contact Manu Jose at itfokprojects@gmail.com or over mobile at 91 94471 94411. There will be an audition on January 5, 6 and 7 at the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi in Thrissur.
