The district medical administration has formulated a joint action plan for prevention of vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya in the border areas of the district, with special emphasis the regions in the State adjoining Kanyakumari district.
District Medical Officer N. Sreedhar said here on Tuesday that the two districts would exchange reports and statistics about the incidence of such diseases and intensify preventive measures.
Health officials from the border areas participated in an inter-district border area workshop held at Parassala on Tuesday to finalise the action plan.
Health Services Additional Director Kumari G. Prema inaugurated the workshop. Dr. Sreedhar presided over the event. Deputy Director of Health Services (Kanyakumari) M. Madhusoodanan and other officials from Tamil Nadu were present.
The group discussions held as part of the event decided to take up preventive measures whenever a case is reported from the border areas.
Medical officers from public health centres in the Vellarada, Poovar, Pozhiyoor, Kulathur, Kunnathukal and Parassala areas in Thiruvananthapuram and Idayacode, Kollencode, Pathukani and Melpuram in Kanyakumari district attended the interaction.
Dr. Sreedhar said the workshop decided to convene meetings at the district level and the block primary health centre level, inform one another of source-reduction activities, fogging, awareness campaigns taken up etc.
The health authorities will also exchange the line list of the vulnerable areas and keep a strict tab on disease prevention and control activities, according to the District Medical Officer.
