Addressing the fisherfolk at Poonthura, he said he would try to expedite measures aimed at alleviating their woes. He observed that many fishermen were yet to be rescued and called for providing adequate compensation for the loss of fishing boats and equipment.

‘No’ to rumours

Mr. Achuthanandan also urged people not to spread rumours and create controversies in the wake of the cyclonic storm. The State had to remain united in managing the disaster that had affected several families, he said. He also urged the government to enhance the infrastructural facilities of the Coast Guard and Marine Police. Besides improving the functioning of the enforcement agencies, the demands of the fishing community must also be met, he said.
