The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy will soon be launching an online film magazine, which will have a number of features that would satiate film buffs in the State on the news and views related to the industry. The web magazine is envisioned to offer extensive coverage on film industry, showcasing developments regarding art and mainstream films alike.

The academy would soon ink the agreement with the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT), the agency chosen for the preparation of the website.

The agreement would be finalised within a couple of weeks, said a senior official with the academy.

During the valedictory function of the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala here recently, Minister for Cinema K.B. Ganesh Kumar had announced that the academy would be launching an online film magazine.

Among the features planned so far include a ‘Review’ section and ‘Industry News,’– which is subdivided into ‘Latest Releases,’ ‘Ongoing Projects’ and ‘Projects in the Pipeline.’ In addition, sections such as ‘Academy News,’ ‘Market Analysis,’ ‘Technology Update’ and ‘Columns,’ written by and about various film-makers, actors and critics, would be there, said the official. There would also be options that would allow viewers to send in their feedback and suggestions on the content.

Book reviews

Books on films would be reviewed as well.

Film students also stand to benefit from this monthly magazine, for it will feature an ‘Introduction to Masters in Film Production.’

“We also plan to include lessons or basic explanations on different aspects of film making such as script writing, editing and sound engineering,” said the academy official.

Video gallery

He added that an elaborate video gallery would be another feature of the website, its content exploring snapshots of film festivals in the State, talks with experts in the field, interviews and movie trailers.

One of the key issues raised during this year’s IFFK pertained to the lack of means for newer filmmakers to market their works. In time, such directors could approach the academy, which would use the website to showcase previews and clips on their productions, said the official.
