Never been to a forest? Wish to be in a dark forest and feel the excitement of listening to the roars and grunts of wild animals? Just walk up to the Kanakakkunnu Palace grounds. A magical forest created by the Kerala Forest Department awaits you there.
Set up as part of Kaanana Sangamam, the six-day tribal festival that got under way on Friday, the ‘forest’ is at once a thrilling experience and educative tour for each visitor, young and old.
Sarppakkavu
It is filled with ‘trees’ that seem to reach out to the skies, ‘animals’ and ponds, with looped audio of the cries and whispers of the wild. There is also a next-to-real ‘Sarppakkavu’ (sacred grove) with the hissing of snakes giving a hair-raising experience.
There are also wildlife photographs, familiarising the visitor with the flora and fauna of various forest areas of Kerala.
The tribal festival highlights the cultural heritage of the tribespeople of the State. There are stalls showcasing their handicrafts and medicines
The festival will conclude on Wednesday.
