Director Rajasenan is ready with a movie that has a lot of Thiruvananthapuram in it.
The Wound , to hit screens soon, is a film of an entirely different genre from the comedy and family entertainers that Mr. Rajasenan has been synonymous with.
Addressing the media after a preview of the movie here on Sunday, the director-actor-screenplay writer, who also dons a crucial role in the film, said the movie dealt with child abuse, a relevant subject and presented as the backdrop for the thriller movie.
Stating that he had struck upon the thread for the story during a routine discussion with his Thiruvananthapuram-based doctor friends, well-known surgeon K.P. Haridas and urologist Satheesh Kumar of Punarjani Hospital, Mr. Rajasenan said Dr. Satheesh Kumar played a major role in the movie. He also helped produce it along with Dr. Haridas.
The movie, by and large shot in Thiruvananthapuram with K.P. Nambiathiri handling the camera, had live surgery scenes, he said. It brought onto the screen several spots in the capital city that, the director said, had never been shown in any movie.
The Wound is the debut of child actress Nidhi, who, according to the director, had handled well the challenging role of a child who has to deal with the trauma of abuse.
The movie, Mr. Rajasenan said, would also be noticed for another factor, again coming from another son of Thiruvananthapuram — music composer and singer M. Jayachandran.
Mr. Jayachandran, who has composed the music for lyrics by writer Jayageetha, also sings a song in the movie.
Mr. Jayachandran said the song, ‘Raagendu pokayayi…,’ was a milestone in his career.
“Singing these days has become a mechanical exercise for many, and mostly this is because song situations that require effort from the heart are rare to come by. This movie, fortunately, required an effort from the depths of the heart. It was an emotional experience,” Mr. Jayachandran said.
