For them, this was another occasion to celebrate. One that gave them the opportunity to dress up as fairies and as Santa Claus.

The Christmas and New Year celebrations organised for the children at the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare’s adoption centre saw 25 of them, aged between two and five years, enjoying the festive mood just as they would celebrate Onam or Ramzan, since they had no tags of religion on them yet.

And like they dressed up as Mahabali during Onam, one of them became Santa Claus on Tuesday, adding to the moment with a bag full of gifts. Joining them on the occasion were District Collector K.N. Satheesh, who cut a cake, and actor Suresh Gopi with his daughter Bhagya Suresh. Students of L’ecole Chempaka too enlivened the celebrations with songs and dance programmes.

Many of the children at the adoption centre, according to a handout from the council, were those who had parents but with circumstances keeping them apart and therefore, could not be adopted. There were 52 children as of now, including Dalan, the 15-day-old baby who was found at the ‘ Ammathottil’ recently.

Mr. Satheesh and council administrative officer in-charge P. Sashidharan spoke, among others.
