A green start to school year

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the State-level school ‘Pravesanolsavam’ at Government Model Girls Higher Secondary School, Pattom, on Wednesday.

Children reaching schools on day one of the academic year will be gifted 50,000 saplings of fruit-bearing trees by the district panchayat. As many as 10,000 saplings will be planted in 1,000 schools.

The scheme is part of the Environment Week celebrations to be held till June 5.

The saplings will be looked after by students’ green clubs in all government and aided schools in the district. — Staff Reporter
