POWER OF ART: Future Alliance, an installation on the Technopark campus, scheduled to be inaugurated on Friday.

Employees on the Technopark campus here can look forward to something innovative to spice up their free time.

The premises will soon be home to a symbolic interactive artistic installation. Titled Future Alliance , the installation is sponsored by Allianz to represent the company’s 10th year of operations on the campus. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is scheduled to inaugurate the facility on Friday.

Powered by human effort and solar energy, Future Alliance is designed to promote community activities and symbolises man’s connection with the universe. The installation done by ‘iX’ team, a social innovation group, features nine traditional ‘mandapas’ representing the planets. Each mandapa houses a cycle with pedals. The cycles are connected to a water jet situated within a fountain. Five sets of hands in the fountain represent the five oceans atop which is nestled a large globe. As water is cycled into the fountain, the globe spins.

A solar power plant on site powers LED lights positioned in and around the installation.

At night, the lights are switched on by an automatic timer and the entire structure is lit up. Allianz claims that the installation was designed as part art and part science to induce Technopark professionals to reflect on the potential for alternative energy while engaging in community activities.

Located outside the Bhavani building, the space around the installation can accommodate up to 250 people. The entire structure was designed by local artisans and completed in just two months.
