CPI(M) Polit Bureau member M.A. Baby, MLA, has said that the festival of Onam has instilled the perception among the people that it symbolised unity and equality.
He was speaking while presiding over a discussion on ‘Onam – A Socialist Thought,’ organised by the P.N. Panicker Foundation here on Thursday.
Delivering the keynote address, noted film-maker Madhupal said the people of the State were falling prey to a capitalist way that aimed for profits.
“We have become slaves to a culture in which the focus is on discount sales and attractive offers. Our present style of living is against the notion that Onam is a socialist concept. A significant change is required in our line of thought,” he said.
CPI leader Pannian Ravindran, lawyer Cherunniyoor Sasidharan Nair, Prakash Babu, ex-MLA, and former Superintendent of Police George Joseph spoke.
