The city-based Kitchen Gardeners’ Forum is all geared up for World Kitchen Garden Day, celebrated every year on the last Sunday of August, at the Satyan Smaraka Foundation Hall near the Museum this weekend.

The celebrations, to be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, will have an exhibition and sale of vegetable and banana saplings, equipment, organic fertilizers and pest repellents, informative books on kitchen gardening, safe terrace gardening, seminars on the latest kitchen gardening methods, backyard vermin-composting, bio-intensive kitchen gardening to grow more in less space and so on.

Safe food

Successful kitchen gardeners from the city will share their experience. An informative poster exhibition on safe food and kitchen gardens will be part of the event, which will be inaugurated by former bureaucrat Lida Jacob while Muraleedharan Thazhakara, programme executive, ‘Vayalum Veedum,’ Akashavani, will address the gathering.

The Kitchen Gardeners’ Forum was started as a collective of kitchen gardeners in the city, bringing together like-minded groups on social networking sites such as Facebook and other organisations such as Thanal and the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA).

Entry is free. For details, call: 99461 09010 and 93493 18482, according to a press release.
