Birthdays are normally marked by cake cutting and feasts, but the capital was witness to a birthday celebration with a difference on Monday.

The occasion was the 84th birthday of Thottam Rajasekharan, author, commentator, and former director of the State Public Relations Department.

What his family, friends, and well-wishers chose to do to mark the occasion was launch a website in the name of the author of the Kerala Sahithya Akademi award-winning ‘Cinema: Mithyayum Yathaarthyavum’ and biography of Sree Narayana Guru and who penned a biographic novel on the life of Buddha titled ‘Bodhi’ just a year ago. Present at the occasion were Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran, Sivagiri Dharma Sanghom Trust president Swami Prakashananda and general secretary Rithambarananda, and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi chairman Surya Krishnamoorthy.

“Thottam Rajasekharan’s life has been one marked by daring, to do things that most others would be hesitant to do and say things that many would not dare say,” Mr. Sudheeran said.
