Pre-monsoon epidemic control steps to be taken

An action plan will be formulated for the early, pre-monsoon epidemic prevention and control measures in the urban areas in the district, it was decided at a meeting chaired by Health Minister K. K. Shylaja here on Monday.

Mayor V. K. Prasanth was present at the meeting.

The Minister directed that the officials of various departments prepare and submit a coordinated action plan for preventing and controlling infectious diseases within a week.

Epidemic preparedness will focus on proper garbage disposal and management, making safe and potable drinking water available and on regular and systematic source reduction activities to reduce vector density.

People’s participation should be ensured in all these activities. Health department officials, people’s representatives, local body officials, residents’ associations and NGOs should actively participate in the pre-monsoon epidemic preparedness activities, the Minister said.

The Additional Chief Secretary, Health, the Director of Health Services and senior officials of the Health department and Corporation participated in the meeting.
