The Educational Multimedia Research Centre at the Calicut University was chosen for the e-learning award for the effective multimedia resources it developed for undergraduate students. The Centre in Calicut University is one of the 21 such centres across the country.
“We have developed online resources B.Sc and B.Ed courses, which are now accessed from across the country. These materials are mostly in mathematics, philosophy and library science, al of it based on the national syllabus. Daily, we have four hours of webcasting, two hours of which is the morning and two in the afternoon. Although it is made for our university, those from outside too access it,” says D.Damodar Prasad, Director of the Educational Multimedia Research Centre.
The centre has made a foray into Massive Open Online Courses , in the model of edX and Coursera, a popular method of distance learning. Also on the anvil is Direct To Home services, to deliver lessons through satellite television.
