Cong. holds ‘public trial’

December 31, 2016 12:07 am | Updated 12:07 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president V.M. Sudheeran has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of pushing the country into the hands of unscrupulous corporate entities and black-money hoarders.

Inaugurating a State-level Congress-party sponsored ‘public mock trial’ of the Narendra Modi government, Mr. Sudheeran said the Prime Minister had failed to deliver his promise during the 50-day period he had sought after demonetisation of high-value currency notes. A Prime Minister who could not fulfil his promise to the people should be prepared to resign from office. The currency curbs, which were continuing, had pushed the agricultural, industrial, and labour sector into doldrums and pushed the country backward by 20 years.

The Prime Minister, who had made a fool of himself through demonetisation, was now fooling the people. He had virtually overturned the economic freedom and lives of an entire population, besides causing the death of 150 people. The credibility of the banking system had been wrecked. The Prime Minister had adopted an authoritarian attitude by refusing to the hear the complaints of the Chief Ministers of various States, he said.

The ‘public trial’ was organised by the Congress Block Committees at the instance of the KPCC. DCC president Neyyatinkkara Sanal presided.

The ‘mock trial’ declared Prime Minister Modi ineligible to continue in office on the basis of the ‘deposition’ of six ‘witnesses.’
