Posting a 12-year high in the success rate, 4.51 lakh students became eligible for higher studies when the results of the SSLC examinations were announced by Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb here on Wednesday.
This year’s success rate of 94.17 per cent is also marginally higher than last year’s 93.64 per cent. Among private candidates, 5,513 of whom appeared for the examination, the pass percentage is 74.06.
In the Government of Kerala Technical High School Leaving Certificate (THSLC) examination, 98.2 per cent of the candidates who wrote the examination became eligible for higher studies. All the students who wrote the THSLC examination for the hearing impaired became eligible for higher studies. In the AHSLC examination conducted at the Kalamandalam Art Higher Secondary School, Thrissur, the success rate was 81.96 per cent.
Plus One admission
Mr. Rabb told a press conference that the government would take all necessary steps to ensure that no student who wished to gain admission to Plus One course was unable to do so for want of adequate seats. As of date, Kerala has 3,35,400 Plus One seats on offer.
This year, 1,00,373 students secured A+ grade in all subjects, 3,078 more than the corresponding figure for 2012. As many as 25,318 students secured A grade or above for all subjects.
Among revenue districts, Kottayam posted the highest success rate — 97.74 per cent. Among education districts, this honour went to Muvattupuzha where 98.90 per cent of the students who wrote the examination became eligible for higher studies. Among revenue districts, the highest number of students who secured A+ for all subjects — 1,413 — was from Kozhikode. Among revenue districts, the top position went to Tirur where 582 candidates bagged the top grade for all subjects. The lowest success rate — both revenue district-wise and education district-wise — was in Palakkad which returned figures of 87.99 per cent and 87.45 per cent respectively.
Among Scheduled Castes candidates, 88.33 per cent of those who wrote the examination gained eligibility for higher studies. Among girl students, the pass percentage was higher — 90.41. Among Scheduled Tribes students, the pass percentage was 82.92. Among OBC candidates, the pass percentage was 94.20.
The ‘Save A Year’ (SAY) examination for those who did gain eligibility for higher studies would be held in select centres from May 13 to 18. Applications for this can be submitted from April 25 to April 30 to the respective headmasters.
