The city Corporation has transferred seven officials who are accused of accepting bribes and suppressing files.

The transfers include a total of 20 done across various zonal offices in the local body.

In the previous council meeting, two councillors had raised corruption allegations against revenue inspectors, accusing them of making the public run from pillar to post to get various certificates and then demanding money for the same.

Arannur councillor and Education Standing Committee chairman S. Unnikrishnan was the first to raise corruption allegation against a revenue inspector.

Residents plea

According to him, some residents of his ward who had approached the revenue inspector for residential certificate and other similar purposes, had to pay money to get things done.

BJP councillor Karamana Ajith levelled similar allegations against another revenue inspector.

Both of them had taken the names of the revenue inspectors in the council meeting. The Mayor had asked the Secretary to inquire into both allegations and present a report in the next council meeting.

Shift

The revenue inspector handling the Arannur and Poojappura wards has been shifted to Nemom and Thiruvallam wards.

The revenue inspector from Thiruvallam zonal office has been transferred to the Attipra zone.

The revenue inspector from Attipra Zonal office has been transferred to the Vattiyoorkavu zonal office.

A section clerk from the Attipra zone has been transferred to the main office. These Attipra zone officials were accused of delaying action on some important files.

“This initial action has been taken in light of the allegations levelled by the councillors in the meeting and also complaints received from other Standing Committee Chairpersons. An inquiry into these allegations is currently on. We will take further action only based on the inquiry report. Some of these transfers though are routine,” said Corporation Secretary L.S. Deepa.

After the councillors raised the allegation, the Mayor asked the councillors to henceforth raise all such allegations in the council meeting so that corrective measures could be taken.

Action to be taken

“We will initiate stringent action, if the charges are proved, so that it will serve as a deterrent in the future. Recently, we had asked the the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate allegations of corruption in the engineering wing, in awarding building permit for the construction of flats,” said Mayor V.K. Prashant.
