68 injured in bus accident

Sixty-eight passengers, including 27 women, were injured when two buses of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation collided on the Main Central Road in front of the Surya Prabha auditorium near Nalanchira here on Saturday evening.

Fifty-five injured persons have been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here, according to the police. The accident occurred around 5 p.m. The police said the buses, one a super fast, were coming in opposite directions. The accident occurred minutes before a thunderstorm broke over the city.

The police suspect that reckless driving and speeding had caused the accident. The 108 service rushed five ambulances to the spot to shift the injured persons to the hospital. Local residents administered first aid and provided water to the injured.
