55 wards in civic body declared reserved

As many as 55 of the 100 wards in the newly-expanded City Corporation will be reserved constituencies for the ensuing elections to the council. The government on Thursday issued an order finalising the list of reserved wards following a draw of lots. While 45 wards are reserved for women, five each are set apart for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Caste women.

The following are the wards reserved for women: Kinavoor, Jnaandoorkonam, Thrikkannapuram, Vattiyoorkavu, Mannanthala, Beemapally, Kanhirampara, Kachani, Kulathoor, Chellamangalam, Pathirapally, Kannamoola, Chacka, Peroorkada, Vanchiyoor, Punnackamugal, Mudavanmugal, Nemom, Chettivilakam, Poonkulam, Poudikonam, Vazhottukonam, Cheruvakkal, Nanthancode, Poonthura, Arannoor, Kamaleswaram, Jagathy, Venganoor, Attipra, Melamkode, Kowdiar, Poundukadavu, Fort, Pappanamcode, Mulloor, Karamana, Estate, Ulloor, Vizhinjam, Thiruvallam, Thuruthummoola, Pangode, Kunnukuzhy and Pettah.

Kazhakuttom, Chalai, Valiavila, Kodunganoor and Sanghumukham constituencies have been reserved for Scheduled Caste women while Medical College, Kottapuram, Chempazhanthy, Kalady and Attukal for Scheduled Caste - General candidates. The suburban panchayats of Kazhakuttom, Sreekaryam, Kudappanakunnu, Vattiyoorkavu and Vizhinjam have been merged with the City Corporation to expand its geographical area.
