50 years of golden words

Friends greet O.V. Usha on her completing half a century as writer

They came with hearts filled with love for a fellow traveller. They shared memories, sang and listened in rapt attention as the focus of all their attention sat through it all with a thoughtful smile.

The gathering included Zacharia, Perumbadavam Sreedharan, Prabha Varma, Kureepuzha Sreekumar, Madhupal, K.C. Narayanan, Lenin Rajendran, C.P. Abubaker, K.B. Prasannakumar, Lopa, Saritha Varma, B. Sandhya, Vinod Vaisakhi, Girish Puliyoor, Sajitha Sankar, Anandi Ramachandran, T.K. Vinodan, and many others. All their attention was on O.V. Usha, poet and sister of O.V. Vijayan, and the occasion completion of her 50 years of life as a writer.

‘Special place’

Present to greet her at the function held at Vyloppilly Samskriti Bhavan here on Thursday was Culture Minister A.K. Balan, who told the gathering that Usha’s place in Malayalam literature was special. Beginning her writing career in the 1960s, Usha had travelled a great distance in her thought and articulation, he said.

Organised by the Santhigiri Research Foundation in association with friends of O.V. Usha, the function concluded with the rendering of Usha’s poems set to music by Ravisankar.
