254 ‘parallel service’ vehicles seized

As many as 254 vehicles operating parallel service have been seized during a drive being carried out by the Motor Vehicles Department with the assistance of police since January 20.

The MVD seized 76 vehicles in the district till February 14. They were released after imposing penalty. State Transport Commissioner S. Aananthakrishnan said the drive fetched ₹5 lakh as fine. The MVD team led by RTO (Enforcement) P.M. Shaji booked owners of 10 tourist buses, having contract carriage permit, that were operating illegal service to Chennai, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Sulthan Bathery.
