December 05, 2012 04:13 pm | Updated 04:14 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

As in the case of every film festival, the competition section of the International Film Festival of Kerala 2012 will be the focus of film lovers, who waits eagerly to see which of the 14 films in the category claims the ‘Suvarna Chakoram’.

To walk away with the ‘Suvarna Chakoram’ (Golden Crow Pheasant) in IFFK 2012, two Malayalam films, too, are in the fray. One of the movies is veteran filmmaker T.V. Chandran’s ‘Inheritors of the Earth’ (Bhoomiyude Avakashikal). The other is ‘Shutter’, a movie from debutant director Joy Mathew, which has Srinivasan in the lead again along with Lal.

The Malayali presence in the section, however, is not restricted to these two movies. First-time director Kamal K.M.’s Hindi film I.D., claims a place in the section with a lot of ‘Malayali’ touch to it. Produced by a group of Malayalis, the movie has Resul Pookutty handling the sound effects. The other Indian movie in the section is Nitin Kakkar’s ‘Filmistan’ in Hindi.

The rest of the movies come from other Asian, Latin American and African countries and include ‘Yema’ from Algeria; ‘A Terminal Trust’ from Japan; ‘Today’ from Senegal’; ‘The Repentant’ again from Algeria; ‘Sta. Nina’ from Philippines; ‘Present Tense’ from Turkey; ‘My Universe in Lower Case’ from Mexico; ‘The Last Step’ from Iran; ‘Nos Vemos Papa’ also from Mexico; and ‘Ivan’s Women’ from Chile.
