The high-power and empowered committees for development of the State capital, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, approved 10 new projects, four of which will be initiated in 2013-14.
In a statement here, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar said the four projects that were given the nod for initiation in the forthcoming fiscal were ring and link roads for 42 km of city roads that were being developed now; parking plazas; expansion of shopping centres and markets; and planting of one lakh tree saplings. The one lakh sapling project would be implemented over a period of five years by the Forests and Agriculture Departments and the Corporation. A green policy for the State capital would be in place for this.
The new parking plazas would be at Attakulangara and Thampanoor while feasibility studies for similar plazas in front of the Secretariat and the Central Stadium too would be conducted.
The meeting decided to call a special meeting with Mr. Chandy to discuss the progress of the Vizhinjam port project. It was also decided that the Kerala Monorail Corporation would submit a detailed project report from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to the government for administrative sanction shortly.
