‘Teacher redeployment should be stopped till the issue is discussed with district in-charge Minister’

August 11, 2016 09:41 am | Updated 09:41 am IST - MANGALURU:

Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat president Meenakshi Shantigodu on Wednesday asked Chief Executive Officer P.I. Sreevidya to stop the ongoing redeployment of additional teachers till the issue was discussed with district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai.

Ms. Shantigodu issued this direction following a representation from parents and representatives of several school development and monitoring committees, expressing their apprehension over deterioration of quality of education in government schools because of redeployment of additional teachers.

Parents of students from government schools in Mangaluru taluk met Ms. Shantigodu and asked her to stop the counselling to be held on Thursday for redeployment of 62 additional teachers from Mangaluru North and Mangaluru South educational blocks to schools in Puttur and Belthangady taluks.

P.C. Imtiyaz from Pilar, near Kumpala, said the 100-odd children in his school at Pilar would be deprived of the services of an experienced teacher and the school would be left with only five teachers. Students would be denied quality education with the redeployment of additional teachers.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction Walter D’Mello said they do not have powers to stop the process of redeployment that was initiated by the State government.

However, Ms. Shantigodu wrote to Ms. Sreevidya, asking her to stop the counselling session. She said redeployment of additional teachers would deny students the subject teachers. Children would be deprived of quality education. Ms. Shantigodu said the process of redeployment should be stopped till the issue was discussed with district in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai.
