ZP prepares Rs. 2,500-crore development plan for 10 years

The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat has prepared a 600-page vision document for the integrated development of the district at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,500 crore. The development works have been planned for the next 10 years (vision 2020), according to panchayat president Shailaja K.T. Bhat.

She told presspersons here on Friday that a delegation of elected representatives from the district would submit the document to Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda seeking funds for implementing the works.

The delegation would meet Mr. Gowda either on October 17 or 18.

She said that it had proposed constructing a silo bulk storage container at the dairy of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd (DKMUL) at Kulashekara. It had proposed an upgrading of veterinary clinics at 13 places as veterinary hospitals.

Suvarna Bhoomi scheme

The document had urged the government to include paddy under Suvarna Bhoomi scheme of the government to encourage 10,000 farmers to cultivate paddy (the scheme was applicable for bringing additional land under paddy).

It had proposed constructing a Krishi Bhawan at Kankanady at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.50 crore.

Ms. Bhat said the document had listed out developing many rural link roads in the district. Some of them were Arasinamakki-Shibaje Road, Nadugallu-Kalmakaru Road, Vitla-Salettur Road, and Balpa-Guthigar Road.

Dredging at fisheries harbour here was proposed to be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs. 4 crore. Ms. Bhat said the Chief Minister had promised to release Rs. 13.14 crore to the district for filling potholes on roads.
