M.L. Samaga, Chairman of the Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, launched a monthly magazine on Yakshagana, “Ballirenayya”, here on Thursday.

Serious subject

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Samaga said Yakshagana was thought of as a traditional art form till a few years ago. But now, Yakshagana was a subject of serious study.

“Let this magazine carry insightful articles on Yakshagana,” he said.

K. Govind Bhat, senior Yakshagana artiste, said that the magazine should not only focus on “Tenkuthittu”, “Badaguthittu” and “Badabadaguthittu” schools of Yakshagana but also on art forms such as “Doddatta”, “Sannatta” and “Krishna Parijatha”. Murli Kadekar, general secretary of Yakshagana Kalaranga, and Taranath Varkady, editor of “Ballirenayya”, were present.
