Workshop on Carnatic music from May 24

A four-day workshop on Carnatic music will begin at Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan in Mangaluru from May 24.

Organised jointly by Mani Krishnaswamy Academy, Department of Kannada and Culture and the Bhawan the workshop would be conducted in memory of Vidushi Suguna Purushothaman.

Soumya Sudhindra Rao, Director, Nritya Sudha, Bengaluru will inaugurate it. Revathi Sadshivam of Bengaluru and Basti Kavitha Shenoy of Mangaluru will be the resource persons. Ms. Sadashivam, belonging to the singing tradition of Muthuswami Dikshitar, would enlighten on Chaturdasa Ragamalika and Manodharma, a release said.

Ms. Shenoy would teach Bhajan and Abhang.

On the last day of the workshop on May 27, Anirudhha Venkatesh from the United States would present a carnatic music concert at 6 p.m. He would be accompanied on the violin by Achyuta Rao and Akshay Anand of Bengaluru. The concert would be conducted in memory of Padubidri Subraya Mani Bhagawathar.
