Union Minister for Transport, Road and Highways Oscar Fernandes surveyed the stretch of the National Highway 75 between Nanthoor and Shiradi Ghats on Saturday.
Addressing presspersons earlier, he said with the shifting of utilities – especially power lines by Mangalore Electricity Supply Company – having been completed at the busy Nanthoor junction in the city, the construction of flyover would commence soon.
Nanthoor junction lies close to the crucial intersection of National Highway 75 and National Highway 13 (towards Moodbidri, Sholapur).
Widening road
He also said the department was considering the widening of the stretch between B.C. Road and Hassan — from two-lane to four-lane — while also pursuing discussions with Japanese investors on a Rs. 4,000-crore tunnel/bridge project across the ghats.
On ordinance
While refusing to comment directly on the ordinance approved by the Union Cabinet to allow convicted legislators and parliamentarians to continue in their posts, Mr. Fernandes said: “(Congress supremo) Sonia Gandhi, (Prime Minister) Manmohan Singh and (Congress Vice-President) Rahul Gandhi will discuss it and bring out a solution.”
He denied there was a rift in the party because of the ordinance and Mr. Gandhi’s disapproval of it.
