Witness identifies auto used in Manipal rape

As many as five witnesses deposed before the District and Sessions Court in the Manipal gang-rape case here on Tuesday. A student of Manipal University from Kerala was abducted in an autorickshaw and gang-raped near Manipal on June 20, 2013. The police nabbed three suspects Yogesh Poojary, Hariprasad Poojary, and Anand on June 27, 2013. They also arrested two persons Balachandra, brother of Yogesh, and Harindra, brother of Hariprasad, on the charge of trying to destroy evidence on July 2, 2013. However, Balachandra and Harindra were released on bail in December 2013.

T.S. Jituri, Public Prosecutor, said on Tuesday that besides the five witnesses, who gave their evidence, the autorickshaw used for abducting the student was produced before the court and was identified by a witness. The case had been adjourned for Wednesday.
