The Election Commission live streamed the poll proceedings from 277 booths in Dakshina Kannada on ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in, on Thursday. The entire exercise was managed by students from 17 institutes, mostly engineering colleges. Students engaged in webcast at Cascia High School and Rita High School in Jeppu were happy their efforts had yielded good result — they could send clearer streams of the proceedings. Anurag N., a student of St. Joseph Engineering College, chose to cast his franchise at the polling booth in Cascia High School using Election Duty Certificate.
In Naravi in Belthangady taluk, three students of Shree Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara Institute of Technology managed the web casting. There was no disruption in the internet connectivity. Vishalakshi N.S., a student, said: “By being here we also learnt the procedure of conducting an election.”
The Hindu found that web casting for part no. 46 of Mangalore City South Assembly segment did not have the voice input, while the ‘model booth’ at Mannagudda Higher Primary School (part no. 68) had clearer images, though video streaming was staccato.
In some booths, the cameras had been placed in such way that images were too blurred.
When The Hindu tried to watch the web cast of booth no. 104 of Belthangady and a few others, the website returned the result: ‘Sorry, the page requested cannot be found’.
The webcast of booth no. 105 showed that six of the seven persons who cast votes from 4.50 to 4.55 were women. The district has more female voters and more female polling officials.
