Large and Medium Industries Minister and district in-charge Minister Murugesh Nirani has said that officers have been instructed to prepare a list of places that would face shortage of drinking water in April and May and initiate steps to install pumpsets for borewells wherever necessary.
Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, he said the district administration has sufficient funds to tackle the situation efficiently.
Action plan
The zilla panchayat is also preparing an action plan of Rs. 45 lakh to tackle drinking water problem in the district.
As there are 32 vacant posts of doctors in government hospitals in the district, a proposal would be sent to the Government urging it to fill these posts. To a question, Mr. Nirani said those who have passed MBBS recently are not willing to join government services owing to the “low salary”.
“If MBBS candidates are not willing to join services, it would become inevitable to fill these vacant posts by recruiting BAMS students,” he added. The Government has released Rs. 29.50 crore as compensation for acquisition of land for setting up the airport in Bijapur and steps would be taken to release Rs. 1.15 crore at the earliest.
The work of setting up the airport has been taken up by Marg Company of Pune, he said.
Commenting on the proposed 4,000 mega watt thermal power plant at Kudagi village in Basavan Bagewadi taluk of Bijapur district, he said the National Thermal Power Corporation officials have visited the spot and steps have been taken to acquire 3,500 acres of land required for the project.
