Water issue raised at review meeting

March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - MANGALURU:

Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel on Monday directed the executive officers of taluk panchayats in the district to prepare for water supply through tankers in the case of any crisis during April and May.

Reviewing the centrally-funded projects here, Mr. Kateel expressed dissatisfaction that the officials had not prepared the plans though there were previous experiences of several areas reporting water crisis and water being supplied though tankers.

Direction to officials

Though Puttur, Sullia and Belthangady taluka panchayat officials maintained that they expected no crisis this year, he asked all the officials see if tankers were used to supply water during the summer months to any area in the last five years and make plans accordingly.

He directed Additional Deputy Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu also to ensure that a district level meeting is convened to discuss the issues and keep an appropriate action-plan ready.

Multi-village schemes

The meeting was informed that three multi-village schemes in Snagabettu, Korpady and Malavoor would be ready by April-end and water will be supplied to villagers from May 1.

Though the MP was not confident that this would be achieved, he said the official concerned should not go back on his words.

The official said he would try his best to achieve this.
