Traffic constable Sampath’s wife, who is at home with her three-month old baby, could see on her mobile phone how Sampath ran or jumped at the Mangala Stadium on Thursday while undertaking physical test for recruitment as a police sub inspector. She called him on his mobile phone after he finished the tests.

Constable Sampath’s wife was among the many hooked to the facility of web streaming of the process of recruitment of police sub-inspectors and reserve sub-inspectors that started since October 27. Mangalore is one of the 16 centres in the state where the process of recruiting 233 Police Sub Inspectors and 52 Reserve Sub Inspectors is being done. This process, aimed at making the process of selection transparent, will get over in Mangalore on Friday (October 31).

Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Amrith Paul, who is the Chairman of Selection committee in Mangalore, said web streaming is a step towards making the process more transparent. “We have been observing the process through CCTVs last few years. Now this footage is connected to the web to allow others to see,” Mr. Paul said. This CCTV footage is in addition to videographing the process. As a part of the recruitment, the recruits have to undergo endurance test that involves running 1,600 metres, long jump/high jump and throwing shot put. Those who qualify in the endurance test will undergo physical examination test that involves measuring height, weight and chest.

Around seven CCTVs have been installed at the venue. One each has been placed at the sprint track, long jump, high jump and shotput sites. One CCTV has been placed at a portion of the gallery of the stadium where the height and weight of candidates are measured. CCTV has been placed at the place where recruit sit and the last one will be at the place where their documents are screened. The images of all these CCTVs can be seen on a real time basis on the website www.hik-online.com or on the mobile phone by downloading an app.

Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. said Mangalore is the only recruitment centre that has provided web streaming facility.
