Volvo bus service from railway station to airport

July 28, 2011 02:57 pm | Updated 02:57 pm IST - MANGALORE:

The Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner N.S. Channappa Gowda has issued a notification allowing the KSRTC to introduce Volvo bus service from Mangalore Central railway station to airport at Kenjar. The KSRTC introduced the service on Wednesday.

The notification, issued on Wednesday, fulfils a long-standing demand of the people of the city and the oft-repeated request by the Airport Authority of India.

Required patronage

The recently-started Volvo service from KSRTC bus-stand in Bejai did not enjoy the required patronage and it was feared that the service would be withdrawn unless its route was changed and made to run from the railway station through the central business area of the city.

The Volvo bus service was started on July 15 without a formal function. It had been running via KPT, Yeyyadi, Bondel, and Kavoor and did not pass through the central business area of the city.

The notification takes note of this and said quoting a report received from KSRTC officials that the people wanted service to Central Railway station and pass by some of the prestigious hotels in the city.

Signboards

About 12 trips of Volvo had been allowed to run from airport via Kavoor, Bondel, Bejai, Lalbagh, PVS Circle, Jyothi Circle, Hampanakatta, Central Railway Station, K.S. Rao Road, PVS Circle, Bunts Hostel, Jyothi, St. Agnes Church, Mallikatte, Nanthoor, KPT, Bondel, and Kavoor before reaching airport. It pointed out that the Police Commissioner had the powers to erect the necessary signboards.
