Chief Executive Officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat K.N. Vijay Prakash said here on Thursday that the panchayat had been preparing a vision document for the integrated development of the district for the next 10 years.
At the monthly meeting of Karnataka Development Programme Review Committee, he said the document would address tourism promotion.
Mr. Prakash said that since Dakshina Kannada was the home district of Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, official machinery should work hard to develop it as a model district.
The Chief Executive Officer said that he had received complaints that officials of Dr. Ambedkar Development Corporation in the district were not working efficiently. An official of the corporation told the meeting that it had not received the action plan of development works for 2011-12. It would fix the target for selecting beneficiaries under self employment scheme and water supply scheme under Ganga Kalyana Scheme after receiving the action plan.
When the official concerned said the corporation had been facing dearth of staff in taluks, Mr. Prakash suggested that it should coordinate with other departments such as the Department of Social Welfare.
He cautioned that that if the corporation officials failed to show progress within a month, he would recommend disciplinary action against them.
Chairperson of the Standing Committee for Education and Health Ishwar Kateel said that some schools did not help students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to get caste certificates from tahsildars.
In fact, schools should arrange for getting caste certificates, he said.
The Chief Executive Officer said that some schools had not changed their land records in the name of schools. The Deputy Director of Public Instruction Moses Jayashekar said he would look into both the issues.
He asked the Horticulture Department officials to conduct an evaluation of the schemes implemented by them in the district. President of the panchayat K.T. Shailaja Bhat presided over the meeting.
