The exhibition that began on Friday at Ravindrakala Bhavan in the University College to mark 60 years of the Karnataka Legislature promises a brief journey into the past. Some of the frames have captured historic moments signifying the milestone in the State’s history. The exhibition — Vidhana Sabhe 60 — is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The photograph of the former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs handing over a sale deed of land to a farmer depicts the historic land reforms movement. The expression of the hitherto landless labourer becoming owner of a land apparently marking the implementation of Karnataka Land Reforms Act, 1961, says a lot, though the momentous occasion could mean different things different people. Then there is this photograph of a beaming B.S. Yeddyurappa with his typical victory symbol standing with Janata Dal (S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy as the two install a coalition government in 2006.
The occasion of Karnataka receiving the first President S. Radhakrishnan interestingly shows all the men of importance of that time in their typical headgear. While the President wears his much known headgear the first Governor Sri Jayachamarajendra Odeyar and S. Nijalingappa wear Mysore peta and Gandhi cap.
But politicians who sometimes laugh at themselves, are shown only in their most serious roles and their lighter side is overlooked.
