Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district administrations have invoked prohibitory orders in view of the Assembly election results.
Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar has barred conducting of meetings and holding of victory processions between 6 a.m. of May 8 and 6 a.m. of May 11. Outside city limits in the district, the restriction applies from 8 a.m. on May 8 to 6 a.m. on May 9.
In an official press release, Mr. Kharbikar said conducting meeting and holding victory processions have been barred as it could lead to creating law and order problem after announcement of Assembly election results.
Mr. Kharbikar has also announced traffic diversion as the counting will be held at Canara College in Kodialbail. No vehicles, except those related to counting officials and the police, will be allowed from Jail Junction and Besant College Junction. No parking will be allowed on the road between PVS Circle and Ballalbagh, and between Karanagalpady and Jail Junction. Parking will be allowed on both sides of the road between Jail Junction and Veterinary Junction.
In Udupi, the administration has clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code throughout Udupi district on Wednesday.
In a press release issued here on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate M.T. Reju said that the district administration had clamped prohibitory orders from 8 a.m. on May 8 to 6 a.m. on May 9 throughout Udupi district as a precautionary measure. This ban would not apply to weddings, funerals or religious functions, provided prior permission is taken from the District Magistrate or Sub Divisional Magistrate or Taluk Magistrate.
Victory processions
On account of the prohibitory orders being in force, political parties cannot take out any victory processions on Wednesday, Mr. Reju said.
