VHP to protest on July 26

July 23, 2011 03:06 pm | Updated 03:06 pm IST - MANGALORE:

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Hindu organisations will hold a protest against the Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill in the district on July 26, M.B. Puranik, prantha upadhyaksha of the VHP, said here on Friday.

Mr. Puranik told presspersons that the Bill was “anti-Hindu” and drafted by “anti-Hindu” people under the chairmanship of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. He said Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes had been included under the Bill in an attempt to divide Hindu society.

He said the Bill had been formulated to appease the minority vote bank. Under the law, the police would not be allowed to take action if minorities were engaged in violent activities.

The Bill had been designed to protect Muslims and Christians in clashes initiated by them, he said. Bajrang Dal district convenor Shivananda Mendon was present.
