Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University T.C. Shivashankara Murthy said on Thursday that the university would recruit 73 teachers for various departments on its campus by the end of April, 2013.
In a chat with presspersons on the sidelines of a function at the University College here, Prof. Murthy said that the university would publish an advertisement in February in this regard. The recruitment process would be over by April-end.
Prof. Murthy said that the university was building a block for postgraduate courses at the University College, a constituent college of the university. It would have 16 rooms. The alumni association of the college would sponsor the cost of eight rooms in the cellar of the building which would be about Rs. 80 lakh. The university would pump in Rs. 1.10 crore for the rest. The building would be ready by December 2013, he said.
The college now offered postgraduate courses in chemistry, commerce and business administration, he said.
He said that the centenary building at the University College would be repaired at an estimated cost of Rs. 22 lakh. A team from the National Institute of Technology – Karnataka (NIT-K), Surathkal, had submitted a report that the building was strong and would last for another 50 years. It needed some repairs. He said that two roads on the University College campus would be asphalted.
On the progress of work on the university’s PG centre coming up near Kushalnagar in Kodagu, Prof. Murthy said that work on a science faculty building had been completed. An Arts and Commerce faculty building, hostels for boys and girls, and quarters for teachers would be built there. A shopping complex would also be built.
Now, the campus was on 72 acres of land. The government was likely to allot 32 acres more to the centre, he added.
