Mangalore University is simplifying the admission procedure for post-graduate courses from 2013-14 academic year.
With this, both students and staff will have lesser paper work. Students applying for more than one course will save some money and can do with fewer photographs.
Vice-Chancellor T.C. Shivashankara Murthy told The Hindu that now the application form would have only three pages and not five pages like in previous years. The university has removed some of the columns from the old application form as suggested by a committee formed by him. It would reduce the paper work of staff, too.
Prof. Murthy said that till last year, a student was asked to submit two sets of application forms, photographs and Rs. 300 as application fee for the first choice. This applied for each additional course/ choice the student applied for, and a fee of Rs. 200 for each additional course.
From this year, the candidate will be asked to submit only one application form, mentioning the options to the department offering the first choice course along with one photograph and application fee.
Those applying for other courses as subsequent options will have to submit photocopies of the original application along with Rs. 100 as application fee for each course and submit it to the respective departments. There is not need to attach photograph again.
After the admission, the original application will be sent to the department chosen by the student under the centralised admission procedure.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the university would be saving some money as there was no need to print many application forms this year unlike the previous years. Prof. Murthy said that like previous years those students writing entrance tests would have to pay Rs. 300 as the test fee.
Degree results
The results of undergraduate examinations of Mangalore University will be announced on or before June 5.
The examinations were conducted in April and May for about 70,000 students in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts.
